Despite seven hits, DC was able to plate just two runs in the contest. From the other dugout, Heidelberg found an offensive explosion, tallying 17 runs on 20 hits.
Down 4-0, the Yellow Jackets looked to close the gap in the third. Lucas Thomeier (Wickliffe / Wickliffe) hit a double into left to get the action started. Garrett Sierra (Defiance / Defiance) singled to move Thomeier to third. Grant Vickery (Bellevue / Bellevue) finished the play off with an RBI single to score the Yellow Jackets first run of the contest.
DC was unable to match Heidelberg's offensive power, as the Student Princes pushed to an 11-1 lead after five innings. Defiance plated their second run of the game in the sixth, as Tanner Stippich (Lima / Allen East) hit a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Ben Bucklew (Archbold / Archbold) to score.
A big-hitting seventh inning pushed HU's lead to the ultimate 17-2 scoreline.
Offensively, DC was led by Troy Konwinski (Allen Park, Mich. / Allen park) and Thomeier, each tallying two hits. Konwinski continues his impressive season at the plate, tallying his team-high 19th hit, as well as boasting a team-leading .328 average.
