Nies Named HCAC Pitcher of the Week

RICHMOND, IND. -  Defiance College baseball player Cohen Nies (Logansport, Ind./Lewis-Cass) earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon. The sophomore lands the achievement after his strong performance during the first week of the 2019 season. 

Nies made two appearances for the Purple and Gold during the 2019 Spring Break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. Totaling eight innings pitched, the Logansport, Ind. threw an impressive 15 strikeouts, walked just one batter, and allowed only two earned runs. 

Nies found his way to two wins during the outings against Rivier University and Hiram College in the sunshine state, worthy of the top spot on the HCAC wins chart. The sophomore also lands third on the conference's strikeouts list.
