High Scoring Leads Baseball to 2-0 start
FORT MYERS, FLA. - The Defiance College baseball team started the season in a strong manner on Monday. The Yellow Jackets took on Elms College in a double header to open up 2019 spring break action, winning both contests against the Blazers.

FORT MYERS, FLA. - The Defiance College baseball team started the season in a strong manner on Monday. The Yellow Jackets took on Elms College in a double header to open up 2019 spring break action, winning both contests against the Blazers.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) won the first contest 12-8, while picking up a victory in the second game 10-4.
Coach Derek Woodley's side wasted no time in the first game of the day. DC tallied seven runs to open up the contest.
Senior Paris Creek (Bryan/Bryan) got the start on the mound. Allowing just three runs in the first inning, and none in the second, DC was looking at a 7-3 lead heading into the third.
The Yellow Jackets continually put pressure on the Blazers, tallying six stolen bases in game one alone. Garrett Sierra (Defiance/Defiance) and Lucas Thomeier (Wickliffe/Wickliffe) led the Yellow Jackets with two each in game one. DC tallied five more SB's with Ben Bucklew (Archbold/Archbold) adding two of his own, while Sierra and Thomeier increased their day's output to three each.
Creek picked up his first win on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while allowing just three hits. Jack Powell (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Northern) grabbed his first save of the year, coming in for 1.2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Game two was highlighted by a dominant pitching performance from Jon Brown (Haskins/Ostego). The junior went for six innings, allowing just five hits and two runs from the Blazers.
From the batter's box, Nate Kaffenbarger (DeGraff/Indian Lake) led DC with four RBI's during the high offensive output performance that was game two. Tory Konwinski (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park) matched the sophomore's daily total with four RBI's of his own.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Tuesday, March 5 as they take on Hiram in a pair of 7-inning games. First pitch is slated for 9:00 am.
