DC’s Jesse Earns HCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kirk Jesse’s sizzling week at the plate during Defiance College’s stint at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida helped the Yellow Jackets win five of six contests and earned the senior center fielder the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player-of-the-Week award.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kirk Jesse's sizzling week at the plate during Defiance College's stint at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida helped the Yellow Jackets win five of six contests and earned the senior center fielder the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Offensive Player-of-the-Week award.
Jesse posted a .444 batting average and a .963 OPS in the six games, while scoring eight runs, doubling twice and stealing seven bags without getting caught. The Ney, Ohio, native was especially locked in during DC's five victories, collecting hits in 10-of-22 at bats for a .455 average and adding seven runs and seven steals in those outings.
Jesse highlighted his outstanding showing in the Sunshine State with a 5-for-5 performance at the dish in a 9-2 rout of Kenyon for the Yellow Jackets. Along with his five hits, Jesse scored three times, knocked in a pair of runs and swiped two bases to fuel the attack.
Jesse currently leads Defiance (5-2) with a .406 batting average, 13 hits, nine runs, three doubles, 16 total bases and seven steals through DC's first seven contests.
The Jackets will look to stay hot when they travel to Upland, Ind., on Wednesday to take on Taylor in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
