N. MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Yellow Jackets pounded out 15 hits en route to scoring eight runs at Manchester on Tuesday evening, but it was not enough as the Spartans handed Defiance a 21-8 defeat in HCAC action.
Defiance plated single tallies in the top of the first and fourth innings and pushed three runs across in the third and seventh frames, as it tried to keep pace with a hot swinging Manchester lineup.
The Jackets trailed 2-1 after the first inning, before the three-run third lifted DC to a 4-2 advantage. The lead would not hold up, as the Spartans rallied for five in the bottom half and went on to score 18 runs in a span of four innings to blow the game open.
Brent James paced Defiance with three hits and four runs batted in, while Kirk Jesse, Tim Pitro, Trey Harris and Casey Kahsen each had two hits.
Defiance (3-9, 0-4 HCAC) will play on its home turf for the first time in 2008 on Wednesday when it hosts Heidelberg at 4:00 pm.
