Avery Meiste joined the Defiance College staff in May 2024 to take over the Esports program.

A Grand Valley State graduate, Meiste was a team captain for Overwatch and Game Leader in Valorant during his time as a competitor for the Lakers.  As a coach, Meiste started coaching high school Esports for West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 2021. He started to volunteer to coach GVSU's Valorant club Esports team after graduation and was later named the first varsity head coach for Valorant in 2023. He served both GVSU and West Catholic HS prior to taking the head coaching role at DC.
