DEFIANCE, OHIO – Defiance College has announced that it will compete as a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE) for its 2018-19 inaugural season.
"We are excited to enter into this new realm of sport," said interim Athletic Director Jodie Holava. "This is a growing field and one that continues to gain traction and NACE will give our athletes a great way to showcase their talents."
NACE is a nonprofit association organized by and for its member institutions. Its goal is to provide a structure and tools needed to bring eSports into the varsity realm as well as providing a place for competition.
"We are very excited to have Defiance College joining our association. After speaking with Jodie Holava I can tell that they will be a strong program with great values. With the addition of Defiance College, Ohio remains as one of the most popular collegiate esports states in North America. The NACE is excited to work with such a great program that is already showing tons of promise," added eSports Manager Layne Shirley.
To qualify as a member of NACE, the institution must be fully accredited by a higher educational accrediting agency to their region and national affiliation. The program must also be endorsed by the institution in which the team represents.
